Morehead State Names Dr. Kremchek as Senior Orthopaedic Consultant

Morehead State Director of Sports Medicine, Chris Lapole, stated, “Having worked with Dr. Kremchek for the last 15 years, dating back to my time with the Cincinnati Reds, I know the level of commitment and excellent standard of care he will provide us is second to none.  Having our team physician, Dr.  (R. Thomas) Fossett and now Senior Orthopaedic Consultant, Dr. Kremchek working together gives us, what I believe, is  one of the best orthopaedic teams in Division I athletics. Dr. Kremchek and his medical team provide care to the highest level of professional athletes in all of the four major sports and Olympians, and now we are honored that he will provide that same level of care to the student-athletes in all of our sports.”

As the Senior Orthopaedic Consultant for the Eagles, Dr. Kremchek will work with Team Physician Dr. R. Thomas Fossett, from St. Clare Regional Medical Center, to provide comprehensive medical coverage for all student-athletes. MSU medical consultants also include Dr. Thomas McHugh (Optometrist), Dr. Emily Settle, DMD, Dr. Emily Hughes, DMD, and Dr. Chris Ginter (Chiropractor). Dr. Kremchek and Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Fellows will provide Morehead State student-athletes with weekly training room visits to evaluate injuries and follow up with post-op athletes.

Morehead State Director of Athletics, Brian Hutchinson added, “We are constantly evaluating ways to enhance the experience and protect the welfare of our student-athletes.  Providing world-class medical coverage is one of the ways we know will improve the lives of all our student-athletes and a partnership with Beacon Orthopaedics makes tremendous sense for MSU Athletics.  Dr. Tim Kremchek and his staff are universally considered leaders in this field and having their sincere interest in and support of Eagle Athletics gives us another partnership to advance our goals.  We will always seek the best medical care available, and in partnering with our long-time team physician Dr. Fossett, we believe the team is awfully strong.”

Morehead State currently has more than 300 student-athletes in 15 NCAA Division I sports, in addition to more than 50 athletes in the 35-time national champion cheerleading program. In 2013-14, the volleyball and soccer programs won Ohio Valley Conference championships and earned NCAA Tournament berths, while the men’s basketball team competed in the College Basketball Invitational postseason event. The department also boasts four female student-athletes who won major postseason awards from the OVC this year.

New Senior Orthopaedic Consultant, Dr. Kremchek, stated, “I am thrilled to assist the sports medicine team at Morehead State University. I was honored when Chris Lapole and Brian Hutchinson reached out to me with this opportunity. I have served over 20 years as the Medical Director or Team Physician of local high school and college athletic programs as well as the Cincinnati Reds, but now I look forward to working with Dr. Fosset to provide comprehensive Orthopaedic care for a Division I program with as much tradition and success as Morehead State University. This will be another great opportunity for Beacon’s Sports Medicine Fellows. These are physicians that have finished their Orthopaedic training and come to Beacon from across the country to learn from Beacon’s orthopaedic surgeons. Working with Morehead’s athletes and sports medicine staff will be a great addition to their fellowship curriculum. I have built my practice around getting athletes back on the field quicker and safer after an injury. Morehead and the community love their athletes, I am excited to be a part of such a great program and keep them on the field.”
